We all know that rain has been destroying Telangana since last week. Southwest monsoon when it started retreating from parts of northindia, Telangana recorded the highest Southwest monsoon rainfall for the last three decades. The state received 1,102 millimeters of rainfall as of Wednesday, 45 percent higher than the normal rainfall of 759.6 millimeters in the monsoon season starting June 1.

In the past decade since 2009, the southwest monsoon rainfall in the state is six times normal - 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019 and this year. In another part, Warangal Urban district recorded 130 per cent more rainfall, followed by Vanaparthi 126 per cent and Mahabubabad 106 per cent more rainfall. Nirmal is the only district with 10 per cent less than normal rainfall.

However, along with climate change, the increased rainfall is largely responsible for the green shield in the state. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao is estimated to have increased by about 5-6 per cent since the formation of the green cover state, due to novel schemes like Green Haram. According to the biannual forest survey conducted by forest survey of India, forest area in Telangana grew by 49.05 lakh acres in 2014-15 from 40.84 lakh acres to 3.7 per cent in 2019. The state government has planted more than 207 crore plants. Green harvesting has been inthe forests and out of the forests since the launch of the program.
