BENGALURU: Students in Karnataka were wearing hijabs and saffron shawals to college on Monday, and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Education Minister B.C. Nagesh encouraged them not to be provoked and to respect government regulations about the ongoing issue.

Bommai, who is now in New Delhi, spoke to the media and said that all students must adhere to the state government's uniform directive. He went on to say that the students must not attempt to disturb the quiet in any way.

"The court order will be issued on Tuesday."  Once the order is issued, the state government will make a decision on the matter. I'm not going to comment on the matter because it's still in court." He went on to say that there were forces at work in the state to inflame the hijab debate, which had already erupted in Kerala and Maharashtra.

Meanwhile,  Education Minister B.C. Nagesh also encouraged them not to respect government regulations, he said: "The students must come wearing uniforms to the colleges. Students wearing hijabs and saffron shawls will not be permitted to enter.

It is your goal to be able to dress whichever you choose until you enter college. You must be dressed in uniform once you enter the gate." The state Education Minister justified the move to separate hijab-wearing and saffron-clad students in the Udupi Administration PU College, saying that after the High Court's judgement, the government will draught consistent norms.
