Bangalore: Muslim students who protested against the ban on hijab at University College in Mangaluru, Karnataka, have decided to leave the campus. Two Muslim girl students who have opposed the ban on hijab have taken a Non Objection Certificate (NOC) from the college to get it for admission in other colleges, while one has been issued a Transfer Certificate (TC).

College principal Anasuya Rai has said that another girl, who attended the press meet, has written to the college authorities seeking an apology and is also attending online classes. Rai said an MSc (Chemistry) Muslim student from Kerala has also taken a transfer certificate citing ill-health. Mangaluru University VC P S Yadapadithaya had announced that if Muslim girl students are not ready to follow the rules of the University Uniform and want to take admission in other colleges, there is no bar, special arrangements will be made for them.

The matter had reached the Karnataka High Court in March this year over the hijab dispute in the college. The court had dismissed petitions seeking permission to wear the hijab inside the classroom. Earlier in February, the Karnataka government had banned wearing clothes that disturb equality, integrity and public order in schools and colleges, which was challenged in the high court. However, even after the high court's order, muslim students are not willing to accept it and the controversy over the hijab continues to arise every day.
