NEW DELHI:  Pawan Kumar Kajal, the working president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, joined the BJP on Wednesday ahead of the Assembly elections.

During a celebration at the party's national headquarters in New Delhi, Lakhvinder Singh Rana, a two-time MLA and vice president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, likewise joined the BJP with Kajal.

Jairam Thakur, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Arun Singh, the head of the party's media department, and others attended the event. Kajal and Rana are both two time MLAs from Kangra and Nalagarh respectively.

Jairam Thakur welcomed both leaders and stated that Kajal's involvement would boost the party because he is a significant OBC leader. Thakur said that the party is continuing to make preparations for the November Assembly elections. He added that like in the other states, the Congress is out of Himachal Pradesh as well.

"The BJP will disrupt the custom of changing government every five years like it did in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana," Thakur said after declaring his confidence in winning the Assembly elections. Kajal claimed after joining the BJP that he did so out of respect for the opinions of the residents of his district.
