Himachal Govt tables Economic Survey 2022-23 in Assembly

Shimla: Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, presented the State Economic Survey 2022–23 to the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. The draft was prepared by the Economic and Statistics Department, Government of Himachal Pradesh.

According to the economic study, the state's real GDP, or GDP at constant prices, will increase by more than Rs. 18,143 billion during the current FY 2022–23 compared to the FY202–21.

The Himachal Pradesh government claimed in a statement that this results in growth in real GDP during Financial Year 2022-23 at 6.4% as opposed to 7.6% in Financial Year 2021-22, according to the first advance estimates of State Income.

 "The State's Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or GDP at Constant Prices (2011–12) is anticipated to hit a level of Rs 1,34,576 crore in Financial Year 2022–23, as against the provisional estimate of GDP for Financial Year 2021–22 of Rs 1,26,433 crore", the economic survey revealed.

"The provisional estimate of GDP for the financial year 2021–2022 was 1,76,269 crore, representing an absolute growth of Rs 19,135 crore. The nominal GDP, or GDP at current prices, is projected to reach a level of 1,95,404 crore in the financial year 2022–2023 instead. Nominal GDP is expected to expand by 10.9% in the fiscal year 2022–2023 compared to 13.5% in the fiscal year 2021–2022 "It read.

As per the statement, the Himachal Pradesh government has outperformed in various sectors ranging from tourism to social services. "Domestic tourist arrivals in Himachal Pradesh rose after the COVID-19 pandemic, rising in absolute terms from 32.13 lakh in 2020 to 56.37 lakh in 2021 and then to 150.99 lakh in 2022. It demonstrates that visitor numbers are returning to pre-pandemic levels " the statement read.

The government added, "In the power sector, a total of 10,519 MW has been harnessed so far from the total hydroelectric potential generated by five perennial river basins (27, 436), of which 7.6% is under the control of the Himachal Pradesh Government and the remainder is exploited by the Central Government.

In addition to that, the government stated that a network of 108 civil hospitals, 104 community health centres, 580 primary health centres, and 16 civil dispensaries is used by the state's health and family welfare department to deliver curative, preventive, and rehabilitative services.
