Himachal Govt to provide revised pensions to 1.73 lakh retirees

The Himachal Pradesh government decided on Monday to grant updated pension and family pension to nearly 1.73 lakh retirees in the state starting February 1, official spokesperson said.

The decision was made at a state cabinet meeting here, which was chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. As per acclunt, approximately 43,000 employees who retired between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2021 will get revised pension and gratuity. From January 1, 2016, the minimum pension and family pension will increase from Rs 3,500 to Rs 9,000 per month, he said. The state cabinet also authorised raising the maximum gratuity ceiling from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, effective January 1, 2016, for NPS personnel, he added.

According to the spokesperson, retirees and family pensioners above the age of 80 would receive an additional pension benefit on their updated pension and family pension. From July 1, 2021, the cabinet also determined to provide 31% dearness relief to retirees. The modification of pensions will result in an increased annual cost of Rs 1,785 crore. He noted that the state government had already offered interim relief to pensioners in the amount of Rs 1,450.44 crore.
