Shimla:  All the four flood gates of Bhakra Dam have been opened due to torrential rains. 50,000 cusecs of water is being released from Govind Sagar Lake in Bhakra Dam, at present the water level of Bhakra Dam has reached 1674 feet, which can be raised to 1682 feet. In fact, Himachal Pradesh has been in continuous rain for the past few days, with the opening of flood gates all around Bhakra Dam and release of 63 thousand cusecs of water.

Somewhere in Punjab, this water can create flood situation and that is why there is a fear psychosis in the villages of Punjab on the banks of Satluj Dariya. In Himachal Pradesh, red alert has also been issued in some districts of the state including Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Chamba and Mandi districts due to heavy rain.

According to a warning issued by the Meteorological Department, more than 100 metres of rain is expected to occur in the area, which may lead to extremely bad conditions. The Met Department has issued an alert and asked the local people to remain alert and the administration is prepared for serious conditions.
