Himachal roads jammed by heavy snowfall, people's woes increased

Shimla: Snowfall has been increasing in several high altitude areas of the state including the capital Shimla since Saturday night. In the state, movement on 434 roads including 3 National Highways has been banned till 8.00 am on Sunday. 1680 power transformers have been stalled and many areas of the state have been blocked out.  The minimum temperature in the capital Shimla has dropped to minus for the first time in the winter season. In Himachal Pradesh, the temperature has dropped due to incessant rain in the plains districts. Rain and snowfall have been predicted to continue in the state on Sunday.

In MP, Pachmarhi, Khajuraho and Nagaon witnessed the rain on Saturday while satna and Guna have also started drizzling. The MET department has also predicted light rain in many parts of the state but the weather remained clear with light sunshine in many parts. The maximum temperature in the capital on Saturday was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal and a minimum of 15 degrees Celsius 4 degrees above normal.

The region is in the grip of western disturbances: According to IMD, a Western Disturbance has taken the form of a cyclone due to wind in the central region of Pakistan, while an induced cyclone has formed in East Rajasthan, due to which a trough has formed in South Madhya Pradesh. Due to these 3 systems, the weather in the state is bad and the year is happening. After January 11, the weather is expected to clear in the state.
