Hindu friend thrashed for abandoning Muslim student at home

Bengaluru: A 22-year-old Hindu man was attacked by a Muslim mob in Karnataka. The man had gone to drop a Muslim friend at her house. The victim and the Muslim student were studying in the same class. The incident took place in Bhadravati area of Shivamogga district. Five Muslims attacked the Muslim student after she was abandoned by her Hindu friend at her home. While the girl lives in Kalandar Nagar, the man is a resident of Visvesvaraya Nagar.

Both study together in a paramedical college. On Saturday (May 27, 2023), the student's sister was injured in a road accident, so she asked her friend to drop her home. The 20-year-old man was returning home after dropping his friend home when he was surrounded by a group of Muslim boys near Jhandakatte. The victim was first asked his name. As soon as he revealed the name, he was attacked. A Hindu man was also beaten up. The Muslim crowd was asking why he was hanging out with a Muslim girl? Not only this, his two other friends Abhi and Yashwant were also attacked by the mob. After getting the news about the incident, these two friends reached there. When the locals protested against the incident, the Muslim mob also threatened the locals. An FIR has been registered at the Old Town police station.

"Four criminals  who beat up the victims Vinay Kumar, Abhi and Yashwant have been arrested," Shivamogga SP G K Mithun said. Another criminal is on the run, a search operation is underway to nab him. The police have registered a case under sections 506 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 504 (intentional insult), 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 323 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The SP has warned that strict action will be taken against those who take law into their hands. He said the police will protect the constitutional rights of citizens.
