Meerut: Hindu leader Sachin Sirohi was arrested on Saturday for allegedly burning an effigy of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi at the commissionerate here, police said. He was produced in court, which sent him to jail. However, police officials have attributed the arrest of Sachin Sirohi to a case registered against him at Parikshitgarh police station.

On Saturday afternoon, Hindu leader Sachin Sirohi, along with supporters Kapil Sharma, Sanjay Jatav, Ayush Tyagi, Aditya Saxena, etc., protested at the commissionerate, accusing AIMIM councillors of insulting Vande Mataram. He also set ablaze an effigy of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, blaming him for the incident. Sachin Sirohi said that the role of Asaduddin Owaisi will be suspicious if the case of assault on a Hindu youth in Bhagat Singh Bazar to the Vande Mataram case held at the oath-taking ceremony of mayor and members is investigated. He also accused the police administration of unilateral action.

Shortly after the protest, the police reached Sachin Sirohi's house in Mansarovar and arrested him and handed him over to the Parikshitgarh police. In the evening, Sachin Sirohi was produced in court, where his lawyer Ajay Garg argued on remand and applied for interim bail, which was rejected by the court. Police arrived at the house of Sachin Sirohi, former metropolitan president of Hindu Jagran Manch, at around 2 pm. When he knocked on the door, his wife Varsha spoke. Saket outpost in-charge Kumar Pawan said, "Sachin Sirohi has been called by the CO sahib to discuss the matter. Then Sachin Sirohi came. There was an argument with Sachin, but the policemen made him sit in the car saying that who does not know you. SP Crime, Anit Kumar said that Sachin Sirohi along with 50-60 of his workers had blocked the road in the Deepak Tyagi murder case. A complaint was lodged at Parikshitgarh police station. He was arrested in the same case.
