Indore: Hingot, a centuries-old tradition of war in MP, will not be celebrated this time due to the outbreak of COVID-19. This is the first time in history that the administration has not approved COVID-19 infection. The Hingot war is celebrated by two groups one day after Diwali. The people of Kalangi and Turra group throw each gunpowder-filled hingot at Depalpur village in Gautampura.

Congress MLA Vishal Patel angry at the Hingot war not getting the approval of the administration has attacked the BJP. Congress MLA Patel of Depalpur constituency said that the officials did not approve of celebrating the Hingot War this year because of the COVID-19 crisis, although grand programs were organized in the election campaign. He blamed the BJP for hurting the religious sentiments of the people and said that officers should not interfere in the traditional ceremonies and they should be cleared as soon as possible. Thousands of people gathered for rallies in election campaigns. Approval was also given for rallies and campaigning.
Patel said that he had written a letter to CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan demanding approval of the Hingot war, but there was no response. The Hingot War has been taking place for decades. There is no winner nor loser in it. Only the traditions are being kept alive here. At the same time, Gautampura Tehsildar Bajrang Bahadur said that no sanction has been given for organizing this function in view of COVID-19 crisis.
