NEW DELHI: Prior to the inauguration of the new parliament building, a historical sceptre from Tamil Nadu called  SENGOL  would be installed in the new parliament building, said Home Minister Amit Shah. The new Parliament building  is an illustration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's envision.

When the British government was ousted on August 14, 1947, according to Amit Shah, the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru utilised this Sengol.

Tamil for "sengol" is "full of wealth." The Sengol conveys the spirit of just and equitable government after being blessed by senior priests from a prominent Saivite Mutt in Tamil Nadu. "This has a long history and a tradition behind it. Sengol has a significant impact on our history. This Sengol came to represent the handing off of power. PM Modi learned about this and immediately launched a thorough probe. After then, it was agreed that it should be presented to the nation. The day of the new Parliament House's inauguration was picked for this, said the union minister.

He said, the installation's aim has never changed. "Sengol represents the same feeling that Jawaharlal Nehru felt on August 14, 1947."  He continued by saying that the transfer of power involves more than just shaking hands or signing papers and that it must maintain ties to regional customs while also taking into account contemporary necessities.
He also said that during the inauguration, the prime minister will recognise 7,000 workers (shram yogis).

Regarding the boycott by opposition parties, Shah stated that all political parties received invitations to the new Parliament Building's inauguration and were free to participate in the event as they saw fit.

“We should not politicize the event of inauguration of the new Parliament building,, let people think and react however they want to." Shah concluded.
