Kochi: The course of post-graduate course at Kannur University in Kerala covers the history of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (VD Savarkar) and Madhavrao Sadashivrao Golwalkar (MS Golwalkar), which is now creating a stir. Some student organizations have alleged that the ruling Marxist Communist Party (CPIM) is trying to saffronize education in Kerala.

The university has included Veer Savarkar in the curriculum of MA Governance and Politics by taking part in his book 'Hindutva: Who is Hindu' and Golwalkar's books 'Bunch of Thoughts' and 'We or Our Nationhood Defined.' Some parts of the book 'Integrated Humanism' written by Deendayal Upadhyaya and Balraj Madhok's book 'Indianization: What, Why and How' are also included in the curriculum.

The Kerala Students' Union, the student union of the Congress, marched to the university on Thursday and burnt copies of the course alleging that the university, controlled by CPI(M), was implementing the RSS agenda. Addressing a gathering against the curriculum, Youth Congress State Vice President Rijil Makkutty said this shows that Sangh functionaries in Kerala are trying to control the higher education sector.
