Meghalaya government welcomes the offer made by the HNLC for peace talks

A proscribed terrorist group which is known as the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), has sent an official communique to the Meghalaya government on proposed peace talks.

On Thursday, the HNLC issued a letter to the Meghalaya government, a day after chief minister Conrad Sangma announced that an official message was necessary to begin the peace talks.Conrad Sangma, Meghalaya's chief minister, Prestone Tynsong, and Lahkmen Rymbui, the state's deputy chief minister, received the letter.

"The HNLC has submitted a formal letter to the chief minister, deputy chief minister, and me, declaring their want to sit for peace talks," Rymbui added. 

Rymbui further stated that the issue of peace negotiations will be discussed with the Centre as soon as possible. He also stated that the Meghalaya government will select a peace mediator in the near future. "For the sake of peace, the MDA government is confident and will go the extra mile," Rymbui stated.
