NEW DELHI: The start of ticket sales for the FIH World Cup Bhubaneswar-Rourkela was announced by Hockey India on Thursday, marking the 50-day mark in the countdown and offering fans of the sport the chance to reserve seats to see the action in Odisha.

The competition, which is slated to take place from January 13–29 of the next year, will include 16 teams vying for the prized trophy. The historic Kalinga Hockey Stadium and the brand-new Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela will serve as the venues for the event.

Dilip Tirkey, the president of Hockey India, spoke at the event and said, "The World Cup's last-minute preparations are currently under progress. We can't wait to welcome all the competing teams and hockey fans from all over the world to participate in this historic occasion.

"The Odisha government has once again raised the bar for sporting venues by creating the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, the centre of the state's hockey belt, which boasts cutting-edge amenities and a capacity of more than 20,000. The event will undoubtedly be bigger and more interesting than any other hockey tournament because two venues will be utilised this time "he said.

On January 13, England and Wales will play in the first-ever hockey game to be held at the Birsa Munda Stadium. After this contest, India's campaign opener against Spain will take place.

Former Olympic champions Argentina will compete against South Africa in Bhubaneswar, while world No. 1 Australia will face France.

A master drag flicker The Indian squad's joy as general ticket sales began was expressed by Harmanpreet Singh, who is currently captaining his team in a five-match practise series against Australia.

"The FIH Pro League matches in Bhubaneswar had a packed house, and it was wonderful to play in front of our supporters again after almost two years. When we begin our campaign and play there for the first time at the World Cup, we are looking forward to playing in front of them at a brand-new stadium in Rourkela. We are eager to visit Rourkela and take in the top-notch facilities that the government of Odisha has constructed.

"We are fortunate to have had the chance to play in front of our home fans twice in a row at an event like the World Cup. We'll do everything we can to make it a tournament to remember, "he said.
