The year 2024 did not prove to be as great for Hollywood in India as the period from 2021 to 2023 was after Corona. However, the year is not over yet and some big Hollywood films are going to be released, from which the industry has high expectations. Four major Hollywood films were released in India earlier this year, out of which two did well, while two films did not do as expected. Now all responsibility rests on those three upcoming films, which have been hits among Indian audiences in the past. The future of Hollywood's target of earning Rs 1000 crore in 2024 depends on the performance of these films.
This year, four big Hollywood films hit Indian theatres. These included 'Deadpool and Wolverine', 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire', 'Kung Fu Panda 4', and 'Inside Out 2'. 'Deadpool and Wolverine' grossed Rs 166.18 crore and was the most successful Hollywood film in India this year. 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' also performed well, earning Rs 134.41 crore. However, 'Kung Fu Panda 4' and 'Inside Out 2' failed to achieve the expected success, earning Rs 50.34 crore and Rs 37.26 crore respectively.
'Mufasa: The Lion King' is the sequel to the 2019 superhit film 'The Lion King'. 'The Lion King' earned a whopping Rs 187 crore at the Indian box office, and now expectations are high from its next part as well. 'Mufasa: The Lion King' is going to release on 20 December 2024, and this film can play an important role in achieving Hollywood's target of Rs 1000 crore.
'Joker: Folie a Duo', also known as 'Joker 2', is the sequel to the 2019 superhit film 'Joker'. 'Joker' grossed over Rs 67 crore in India. 'Joker 2' will release on October 4, 2024, and this film is also expected to do well at the box office.
'Gladiator 2' is the sequel to the iconic film 'Gladiator' released in the year 2000. The first part was well liked by the Indian audience. Now after 24 years, its sequel will be released on 1 September 2024. This film can also make an important contribution in fulfilling Hollywood's target of Rs 1000 crore.
The performance of Hollywood films in the first eight months of the year 2024 has been mixed. While some films earned a lot, some failed to live up to expectations. Now Hollywood has high hopes from big films like 'Mufasa: The Lion King', 'Joker 2', and 'Gladiator 2' releasing in the coming months. If these three films perform well at the Indian box office, then Hollywood can touch the figure of Rs 1000 crore in 2024. Otherwise, this year will not end as Hollywood had thought in India. The inclination of the Indian audience and the quality of the films will decide what kind of year 2024 proves to be for Hollywood.
