LOS ANGELES: The Entertainment One criminal drama series "Mr. Natural" is set to star and be executive produced by Hollywood legend Robert De Niro.
According to the logline for the potential series, the plot follows Louis "Mr. Natural" Baron (De Niro), who has just completed a 30-year sentence in federal prison and has just arrived in Palm Springs, driven by a desire to reunite with his stolen family and a risky scheme to get a taste of the Salton Sea's lithium billions. The desert will be filled with bones and blood. According to "Variety," Palm Springs will never be the same.
The idea, which Mitch Glazer ('On the Rocks') created, is planned as a multi-season series, with Glazer, De Niro, and 'Yellowstone's' Art and John Linson serving as executive producers.
Mr. Natural by eOne does not yet have a platform tied to it, but this is likely to change soon.
De Niro has been hired in a second TV series in as many months, "Mr. Natural." He will play the title character in the Netflix limited series "Zero Day," reports "Variety" in November.
The creators of that project are Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, and it is now in the development phase.
It would be De Niro's first regular television role if either project were to receive a series order.
De Niro, one of Hollywood's most recognisable movie actors, won the Academy Awards for best-supporting actor and best actor for the films "The Godfather Part II" and "Raging Bull," respectively. He has received nominations for seven acting Academy Awards in total, and he co-starred in and produced the film "The Irishman," which received a nomination for best picture.
