Guwahati: The Assam government is all set to allow the online sale, purchase, and home delivery of liquor in Guwahati on a trial basis. The Assam Cabinet decided to allow online sale and purchase and home delivery of liquor within the Guwahati Municipal Corporation area as an experiment for a month. The order states- Whereas all Indian Made Foreign Liquor I Beer/Country Spirit retail 'OFF' shops in the State cannot operate for the entire working hours, i .e. from 11.00 AM to 10.00 PM due to COVID induced restrictions imposed vide Government order No. ASDMA 28/202 I / I 26, dtd.26.06.202 1;

And whereas, the Supreme Court of India has recently observed that states may consider non-direct sales including online/home delivery of liquor to avoid overcrowding and to facilitate social distancing norms in terms of COVID 19 guidelines. Similarly, Hon'ble Madras High Court has also permitted only inc sale of the liquor; And whereas, various states like West Bengal, Orissa, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kera lo, Punjab have already introduced online sale and home delivery of liquor;
