Home Ministry's recommendation against former CBI Director Alok Verma

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has appealed to former CBI Director Alok Verma for disciplinary action against him for misusing his official office and violating the relevant service rules. The officials informed about the same on Wednesday. He informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has written to the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), the nodal Ministry of the central bureau of investigation (CBI), to take necessary disciplinary action against Verma.

The same officers said that if action is allowed, the temporary or permanent confiscation of Verma's pension and retirement benefits may be included. It may be mentioned that during his tenure in CBI, there was a dispute with Verma, a 1979-batch (retired) Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, IPS Gujarat cadre officer, and his deputy Rakesh Asthana over corruption defects. Both Verma and Asthana had accused each other of corruption. Asthana is currently the Delhi Police Commissioner.

Verma has been accused of misusing his official position and violating service rules, the same senior official said on condition of anonymity. The Ministry of Home Affairs has recommended necessary action against them. The Ministry of Home Affairs is the Cadre Control Authority for IPS officers. Officials said the DoPT has sent the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which is the recruitment of IPS officers.
