Hong Kong: Carrie Lam, Hong Kong's Chief Executive Officer, slammed remarks made by some Western government officials on Wednesday, one of whom was attributed to US State Secretary Anthony Blinken. Seven current or former senior staff employees of the Hong Kong online media organization were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of seeking to promote seditious publications in violation of the colonial-era Crimes Ordinance.

According to a Chinese state media source, the situation of Stand News has nothing to do with press freedom, and the western perspective on the matter reveals their double standards. The United States expressed concern about the news outlet's closure on Wednesday, urging authorities to release all individuals who have been jailed illegally.

Meanwhile, Blinken stated in a tweet that journalism is not about secrecy.

According to the statements from the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Hong Kong authorities, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam is once again curtailing press freedom in the country by deleting Stand News and its main newspaper Apple Daily in a parallel manner.
