Electricity companies get relief of 90 thousand crores, know its effect on consumers

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday announced a relief package of Rs 90 thousand crore giving huge relief to the power distribution companies. She said that this amount will be provided through private sector companies Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC).

Discom was facing a shortage of cash due to the Corona epidemic. Therefore, a provision of Rs 90 thousand crore has been made. Nirmala Sitharaman said that Discom is facing a lot of problems. The Finance Minister said that PFC and REC will give this money to Discom. This will help discom companies. It is expected that customers will also benefit from this decision of the government. Discom companies will get this amount of 90,000 thousand crores in two installments. Electricity distribution companies are owed to many states. According to government figures, electricity generation companies have Rs 92,602 crore left till February 2020 over power distribution companies which has increased to about 94 thousand crores during the lockdown period.

To solve this problem, in the package released under the 'Self-reliant India Campaign', it has been announced to provide cash up to Rs 90,000 crore. The package also states that central public sector undertakings and power generation companies will also provide some concessions to the power distribution companies, but this concession will be given on the condition that the companies provide benefits to their end customers as relief in their fixed charges.
