The flood situation in Assam continues to be critical, with three more deaths reported and more areas becoming submerged. Despite a slight drop in the number of affected people, the overall situation remains concerning.
Rivers are still overflowing, and many people have sought refuge in relief camps spread across various regions. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that 535,246 people across 13 districts are currently impacted by the floods, down from 601,642 individuals in 10 districts recorded on Saturday.
Since May 28, the floods and storms have claimed 18 lives, with the latest fatalities occurring in Cachar (two deaths) and Nagaon (one death). The ASDMA bulletin highlighted that three major rivers—Kopili, Barak, and Kushiyara—are still flowing above the danger level.
Nagaon is the most severely affected district, with 303,567 people impacted, followed by Cachar with 109,798 and Hojai with 86,382 affected individuals. In response, authorities have set up 193 relief camps, providing shelter to over 39,000 displaced people. Additionally, 82 relief distribution centers are actively offering support.
Various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities, are involved in ongoing rescue and relief operations. Medical teams are also on the ground to assist those in need.
The floods have caused significant damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and other properties, further highlighting the gravity of the situation.
