Where India celebrates Hindi Day on 14 September every year, the whole world celebrates Hindi Day on 10 January and it is known as World Hindi Day. Hindi was given the status of the official language in 1949, almost two years after the independence of India. Hindi Day was celebrated in the year 1953, since then September 14 is celebrated every year as Hindi Day. The main purpose for celebrating Hindi Day is to make people aware of Hindi. In today's English era, the importance of Hindi day increases even more. Many types of events are organized on this day, especially in schools and colleges.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first PM of independent India, dedicated a full day to Hindi. The decision to celebrate Hindi Day on 14 September was made by the then PM Pandit Nehru. In 1949, along with Hindi language, English language was also given the status of official language. Hindi has been demonstrating its power for decades. People speaking and studying Hindi become even more proud when they learn that the first World Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur, Maharashtra in 1975 on January 10, 45 years ago. The special thing is that a total of 122 delegates from 30 countries attended this conference.
