Patna: The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated with fanfare in Bihar. It is customary to eat curd and khichdi here. This link of culture is the world's first practice. It is considered to be a symbol of the beginning. In the month of Paush, when the Sun God travels from Sagittarius to Capricorn, this astronomical phenomenon is called Sankranti. At the very beginning it was just an astronomical event, but many events in the Vedic period made it sacred. This symbol of purity is an integral part of Indian society till date.

The same practice of eating curd chuda in Bihar is the effect of Vedic stories that stems here. It has recently come to light that Singhbhum in Jharkhand was the first plot to come above the sea. It is said that when Manu started farming by planting seeds on earth, food was produced. Kheer is the first cooked food, called kheer pak.

Then, when the tradition of making curd from milk developed, the paddy lava was eaten with it. Arrangements for frying the food had not started then. Maharshi Dadhichi was the first to arrange food by adding paddy to the curd. The same is present in Saran district of Bihar, Maa Ambika Bhavani Temple. This was the sage's ascetic in the golden age. Once, during the famine, the sage had consumed curd and paddy to the mother. Then Goddess Annapurna appeared in avatar and the famine was over. The practice of eating curd-chuda is also associated with Mithila. The sage munis who reached Mithila at the time of Dhanush Yagna had a meal of curd chuda. In such a big event, it was taken as prasad from the food of the rishis, and then the practice of curd chuda started.
