The Haryana Assembly elections are turning into a tight race between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, with both parties vying for around 45 seats, which is the number needed to form a government in the state. As of the 10 AM counting trend on Tuesday, the competition remains intense.

In contrast, regional players like the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) are facing tough times, with indications of a possible decline. The INLD is leading in just two seats, while the JJP has not secured any seats according to the latest trends.

Both JJP and INLD are led by members of the influential Chautala family, a significant force in Haryana's political landscape. Abhay Singh Chautala, the general secretary of the INLD, is seeking to retain his seat in Ellenabad, Sirsa. His nephew, Dushyant Chautala, a leader of the JJP and former deputy chief minister of Haryana, is contesting from Uchana. To strengthen their position, the JJP has formed an alliance with Chandra Shekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) to appeal to Dalit voters, while the INLD has partnered with Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Notably, Haryana has 17 reserved Assembly seats.
