Although Biden is already the presumptive Democratic nominee, Oregon's 66 delegates will further bolster his position as he prepares for a potential rematch with former President Donald Trump.
On the Republican side, Trump is expected to win Oregon's primary, but he faces a more challenging battle against Biden in the general election. Oregon has consistently voted Democratic in presidential elections since the mid-1980s, with its eight electoral votes solidly in the Democratic camp.
Tuesday's ballot in Oregon also included other important races. In Multnomah County, voters decided on their district attorney, while two key House races drew national attention. In the Third Congressional District, Susheela Jayapal, sister of U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), is running to replace the retiring Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR). In Oregon's Fifth District, two Democrats are competing to challenge the Republican incumbent who gained the seat in the midterms.
In other news, former President Trump won the Kentucky Republican presidential primary, also projected by Decision Desk HQ. Trump, who has already secured the GOP nomination, will add most of Kentucky's 46 delegates to his tally. Kentucky allocates its delegates proportionally, requiring candidates to receive at least 15 percent of the vote to earn delegates.
Trump was the sole active candidate on the Kentucky ballot, though former candidate Nikki Haley continues to garner support in various states after exiting the race. She secured about 20 percent of the vote in recent primaries in Maryland and Nebraska and nearly 10 percent in West Virginia.
Kentucky, a reliably Republican state, is expected to support Trump in the November election, as it did in 2016 and 2020.
