Muharram is the main festival of those who believe in Islam. Imam Hussein and his companions, who believe in Islam, remember him on this day in the grief of martyrdom. Muharram is considered the first month of the Islamic year, which is also called Hijri.

On the day of Asher, that is on the day of Muharram was an event which has a prominent place in world's history. In fact, there used to be a very wealthy king in Iraq named Yazid. Crusade between Imam Hussein and Yajid, the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sahib.

At Karbala, a small town 100 kilometers away from Baghdad, Iraq's capital, Imam Hussein was martyred along with his family, including his 6-month-old son Hazrat Ali Asghar was involved. Since then, all the Muslims of the world, in this month, make the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his associates showed the matter of grief.

On the day when his 72 fellow soldiers, including Imam Hussein were martyred, it was 10th day of Muharram month. On the 10th day of the month of Muharram, Ashura is said to be the month of grief and misery. Many people remember the Imam on this day, giving themselves various kinds of torture, such as giving their back pain.

Such people do so to realize the torture given by Hussein and his friends. During Muharram Muslim communities make Tajia for the procession on this day. On the day of Muharram, people wear black clothes and remember the companions, including Imam Hussein who died in Karbala grounds. This festival is a day for mourning for them.
