New Delhi: The Central government has placed a new vaccine order to address the vaccine shortage in parts of the country. The order of 660 million doses of Covishield and Covaxin has been placed recently. The vaccine is likely to be supplied between August and December. The order contains 37.5 million doses of Covishield and 28.5 crore doses of Covaxin. About 22 crore doses will be given to private hospitals. According to official sources, the new orders are placed at revised prices of the vaccine, which will pay Rs 215 per dose for Covishield and Rs 225 per dose for the Covaxin.

According to media reports, the government has reported that we are on the way to imposing 500 million doses per day soon. It is very important to meet our goal. About 400 million doses have been administered across the country till 10 pm on Friday. The central government had indicated the availability of 13.5 crore doses for July. The center was earlier buying the vaccine at the rate of Rs 150 per dose. The government had indicated that it would change vaccine prices after the changed procurement scheme came into effect on June 21.

We appreciate the concern of the states in achieving more vaccine doses, so we should also appreciate how the Government of India is increasing production, said Luv Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health. The government is ensuring that maximum vaccine doses can be provided to states and Union Territories. The Union Health Ministry in an affidavit to the country's Supreme Court on June 25 said that by December, the country will have a dose of 1.35 billion vaccines per month, which will be sufficient for the adult population.
