A pregnant women can face sleep problems due to the physiological changes that occur in pregnancy. Not getting enough sleep during pregnancy has gives rise to various serious health issues. According to a new study suggests that sleeping more than nine hours per night during pregnancy may be associated with late stillbirth - the death or loss of a baby before or during delivery.

The study published in journal Birth indicates a link between lengthy periods of undisturbed maternal sleep and stillbirths that were independent of other risk factors. The researchers, however, caution that further work is required to better understand the relationship and what it means for pregnant women.

Louise O'Brien, Ph.D., M.S., a University of Michigan researcher in the Division of Sleep Medicine, said that  women often report waking up and getting up in the middle of the night.

“Kathy Lee, a professor of nursing at the University of California San Francisco says that  a woman really needs to go to bed earlier when she is pregnant. Lee recommends that mothers-to-be get at least 7 hours of sleep each night, while also adding that women need the extra rest, and they can't keep going on the same amount of sleep they got before becoming pregnant.
