Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in Punjab. In the midst of the increase in Corona cases in Punjab, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has issued new guidelines related to Pambadi to prevent coronavirus in the state on 20 August. The Chief Minister said that since August 21, all public ceremonies except weddings and funerals have been banned, with a daily curfew imposed from 7 am to 5 am in all 167 towns and cities of the state. Whereas in government and private offices, only 50% of employees are allowed to work and the weekend lockdown has been extended till 31 August.
1,741 Corona cases were reported in Punjab on 20 August. So far, the maximum number of cases were registered on Friday in 24 hours. Since August 11, 1,000 more cases have been filed. From June 21 to July 6, 2,417 new cases were reported in Punjab. After which there was an increase of 1.55 times in the time period of 15 days. It increased to 1.81 in the 15-day period ending on 21 July, the growth rate increased to 2.04 on 5 August and the increase reached around 2 on 20 August. However, until August 20, the total number of cases in Punjab 37,824 is still the lowest among the 15 major states of the country.
The state has tested 28,100 samples, which is higher than Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. Its total positivity rate is currently 4.5%, which is lower than the national average of 8.7%. Only the major states, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan have better positive rates. However, on 1 August, the positivity rate which was 1.83% has increased to 2.88% on 20 August.
