In April 1991, a small news item was published in the country's newspapers. It was written that former Union Minister PV Narasimha Rao now wants to retire from politics and go to his village in Andhra Pradesh, where the rest of his life will be spent in writing and reading. They were emptying their bungalow in Delhi and packing the goods. Meanwhile, on May 21, there were reports that changed their future plans. In fact, Rajiv Gandhi had gone to deliver a speech at Sriperambudur near Chennai at that time when he died in a suicide attack. In the subsequent Lok Sabha elections, Congress unanimously found Rao most suitable for the post of PM.

After that, their tied luggage opened. He took over as the PM of the country at a time when the country was in the worst position economically. Not long ago, the Chandrashekhar government had to sell its gold. Rao faced two major challenges - the first being the running of a minority government and the second being to drive the country out of economic turmoil. He did both things well. However, for both of them, they had to wear the crown of thorns. Such feats had to be shown that he not only fell prey to criticism but also cracked his relationship with Sonia Gandhi in such a way that it could never fill.

There is nothing to say about where it started, but Narasimha Rao was upset that Sonia Gandhi used to hold his phone for too long. He waited a long time when he went to meet her. When this happened many times, they decided to make their own way. He told a close journalist several years later that Narasimha Rao could have waited for Sonia to arrive late on the phone, but the prime minister of the country could not have done so, if it had been the case, she would have been in a verse to the PM's post. The distances increased. Sonia Gandhi's supporters thought she was deliberately marginalizing the trusted people of the Nehru-Gandhi family. After which the relationship between the two deteriorated, Narasimha Rao's relationship with Sonia could not improve even till his last moment.
