A Russian drone assault overnight caused damage to equipment at energy sites in Ukraine's southern Odesa region, according to Ukrenergo, the national grid company. The news came through the Telegram messaging app on Friday.

The Ukrainian military reported that its air defense successfully downed four drones utilized in overnight attacks aimed at the region's energy infrastructure.

Furthermore, Ukraine's air force claimed to have taken down nine Russian drones overnight, targeting the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. They stated that Russia employed two S-300/S-400 missiles and three Iskander-M ballistic missiles in the assault.

The aftermath of the drone strikes led to damage to several private residences and farm buildings in the Zaporizhzhia region, as reported by the military.

In a separate incident, explosions were reported in an attack on the eastern city of Kharkiv late on Thursday. Kharkiv has been a frequent target of Russian attacks. However, according to Oleh Syniehubov, the region's governor, the attack damaged four cars and a five-story building, with no casualties reported.

Recent actions by Russia have intensified attacks on Ukraine's already weakened energy system. This includes the largest strike on grid infrastructure since the war began on March 22nd. Thermal and hydropower plants remain targets of these attacks.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed concerns, stating, "Unfortunately, Russia continues its energy terror, and just in the last weeks, they destroyed more than six gigawatts of facilities in our energy sector, including hydro and coal power energy," as quoted by Estonian Public Broadcasting on Friday.
