Creativity means a process by which something new is produced. The product could be anything -- drawing, singing or a painting.
When we talk about creativity in children emphasis should be given to the way they express their feelings rather than the end product. We could help encourage creativity in kids in many ways and help them come up with their own ideas and put their thought process into action.
Feelings
Encourage children to express their feelings and ideas. Let them speak up and explain what they would like to paint or do. By doing this children come up with their own ideas and start to think how they could make something more beautiful and creative.
Questions
Encouraging children to questions and be curious. This certainly helps them get more involved in what they are doing. By asking questions they learn more and could also come up with different ways of doing something.
Imaginative
To be creative you got to be imaginative. Children should fantasize about things, because this builds creativity instincts in them. They need to dream and imagine so they can put their thoughts down in a painting or drawing.
Freedom
Give children the freedom to think and make choices. Do not always give them ideas and make the rules. It's important to give them the freedom to be creative and come up with their own ideas. For example, choosing a color or a particular drawing.
Be Open
This is very, very important. Be open to your child's suggestions about doing something. Never discourage them or tell them their idea is bad or not good, you could put it across to them in a more positive and encouraging way like -- wow! your idea is great, but don't you feel it would be better doing it this way? By doing this you are encouraging imaginative thinking as well, where the child starts to imagine if it could look better another way.
Always encourage your child, they are born creative in their own ways!
