Millions of Indian citizens' data is reportedly up for sale on the Dark Web, according to an American (how to lock aadhaar) cybersecurity firm's recent report. However, the hacker has allegedly removed the files upon getting wind of the investigation. The available data on the Dark Web includes people's names, addresses, Aadhaar numbers, phone numbers, and other related details. If you suspect that your Aadhaar card could be misused, you can secure it by locking it. UIDAI offers several features to help users keep their data secure, one of which is locking Aadhaar. Here's how you can lock your Aadhaar card (how to lock aadhaar) biometrics.

Before locking Aadhaar, you need to create a 16-digit Virtual ID (VID). You can only lock (how to lock aadhaar) or unlock Aadhaar with the help of VID. To lock Aadhaar biometrics, first, you need to visit the official UIDAI portal at https://uidai.gov.in/en/. Here, you should navigate to the 'My Aadhaar' section, where you will find several options. You need to click on the 'Lock/Unlock Biometrics' option. Then, you will receive an OTP on your registered number. By entering the OTP, you can lock your Aadhaar biometrics. To unlock biometrics, you need to follow the same steps. You just need to select the 'Aadhaar Unlock' option instead of 'Aadhaar Lock.' Then, you will have to enter your VID, captcha, and generate an OTP, and follow the further process.
