From July 26 to August 11, Paris will be the stage for the world's top athletes at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Nearly 600 athletes will represent Team USA in the French capital, striving to secure medals and bring glory back home.

This marks Team USA's 29th appearance at the modern Summer Olympics. Here’s everything you need to know about watching Team USA in action.

Team USA's Olympic Journey
Paris 2024 will be the 30th edition of the Summer Olympics. The United States has participated in every Olympics except the 1980 Games in Moscow, which it boycotted. The U.S. has previously hosted the Summer Olympics in St. Louis (1904), Los Angeles (1932 and 1984), and Atlanta (1996). After Paris, Los Angeles will host the Games again in 2028, so keep an eye out for the Olympic Flag handover during the Closing Ceremony.

Team USA’s Medal Count at Tokyo 2020
As of Tokyo 2020, Team USA has won a total of 1,065 gold medals and 2,638 overall medals in the Summer Olympics. At the Tokyo Games, held in 2021, U.S. athletes earned 39 gold, 41 silver, and 33 bronze medals, totaling 113 medals. The U.S. has consistently achieved over 100 medals at each Olympic Games since Athens 2004. The last time Team USA fell short of this milestone was in 2000, with 93 medals. Track and field athletics and swimming remain the top sports for U.S. medal wins.
