Recent data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre highlights that digital financial fraud has cost India a staggering Rs 1.25 lakh crore over the past three years. To combat this growing issue, Truecaller has launched a new fraud insurance policy in collaboration with HDFC Ergo under the "Cyber Sachet" insurance scheme. This new feature aims to offer users enhanced protection against financial losses from fraudulent activities.

Eligibility Criteria

Indian residents aged 18 and older are eligible for this insurance, including foreigners with an Indian phone number and Indians temporarily abroad. This policy is available to all Truecaller users across India, regardless of whether they use an Android or iOS device.

Coverage Details

Truecaller’s fraud insurance provides up to ₹10,000 in reimbursement for losses incurred due to call or SMS fraud on your Truecaller number. This coverage applies to individual users and is not available for business or professional accounts.

How to Access Coverage

Existing Users: If you have a Truecaller assistant, assistant family, premium, premium family, or gold yearly subscription, you will receive this insurance at no extra cost. Simply activate it through the Truecaller app or ensure you have the latest app version to receive this feature automatically.

New Users: To access the fraud insurance, you need to purchase a premium, premium family, or gold yearly subscription.

Activating Fraud Insurance

To enable fraud insurance, follow these steps:

  • Open the Truecaller app and go to the premium tab.
  • The activation is a one-time process and will renew automatically with your subscription.
  • No additional documentation is required.

Filing a Claim

If you fall victim to fraud, such as sharing your bank details with a scammer or entering information on a fake website, you can file a claim as follows:

  • Ensure your yearly Truecaller premium subscription is active.
  • Activate fraud insurance through the premium tab in the app.
  • Submit your claim via the premium tab, which will redirect you to HDFC Ergo for claim registration.

Claim Limits

You can file multiple claims within a year, as long as the total amount does not exceed Rs. 10,000. While this coverage may not cover extensive losses, it provides a safety net for smaller financial setbacks.
