Laxman established a city on the banks of Gomti Nagar, which was known as Laxmanavati, Laxmanpur or Lakhanpur. This name was later changed to Lucknow. An elevated mound is present in the old part of the city, which is still called 'Laxman Tila'. Another story is very popular about the naming of Lucknow.
