Kochi: Kerala Police took 10 people into custody on April 1, 2023, for allegedly showing a depiction of a Muslim terrorist during a presentation at the opening ceremony of a state-level school festival. As per the report, the event took place on January 3, 2023. The 5-day music festival was organised by MATHA (Malayalam Theatrical Heritage and Arts) of Penrambra. It showed how the Indian Army arrested a man wearing a kafiya (a headcover worn by Arabs) on his head.

According to media reports, Anoop VR, director of the Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle, had complained to the Nadakavu police after this musical programme and urged them to register a case. But the police refused to do so. After this, Anoop reached the court. After which, the Kozhikode Court ordered to register a case under Section 153A of the IPC against the director of Matha Perambra and 10 others. A case was registered in this matter on the orders of the court. At the same time, Matha has denied the allegations levelled against him and said that showing a terrorist in Muslim dress was not done with any intention, nor was it related to any political organisation or ideology.
The director of Matha said that the allegations leveled against him that he promoted the agenda of RSS are absolutely baseless. He said, 'After our performance, even Mohammad Riaz congratulated us. The name of our song was Drishya Vismayam. The same team had also demonstrated during several district sessions of the Communist Party (CPM). According to the director of Matha, the musical programme was played on the day of the event as well as in the presence of the CM and other ministers. This song was played just before the inauguration of the event by the Chief Minister. This Kerala event is considered to be the largest student cultural gathering in Asia.
