New Delhi, Union Minister of Human Resource and Development Prakash Javadekar, will inaugrate the new IIT transit campus in Jammu.

The construction of transit campus which is spread over 25 acres within the actual site will soon begin.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Higher Education, Jammu & Kashmir and the Department of Higher Education in the HRD Ministry, on May 1, 2016.

Javadekar said, "We will not allow anything that will lower their standards. Actually we all should try to improve them further and make them really world class institutes. Therefore, quality is absolutely important.''

He further added, ''A total of 90 students have been enrolled at IIT Jammu-30 each in computer science and engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering for the academic session.''
