The comedy spirit in Hindi cinema has always enthralled people with its refinement. Born in Kolkata today, September 30, 1922, Mukherjee taught mathematics and science before appearing in films. He loved playing chess.

He received the same filmmaking sacraments from the New Theatre in Kolkata. Popular director Bimal Rai also has a big hand in shaping his talent properly. Mukherjee worked as Rai's assistant in the 1951 movie "Do Bigha Zameen." Mukherjee started his career as assistant director of Bimal Rai in 1951. After working with him for 6 years, he started his directorial career in 1957 with the film "Musafir."
