Srinagar: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for vehicular movement due to landslides. Officials said on Saturday that rain at several places in the Union Territory and snow around the Navayuga tunnel caused landslides, blocking the way of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has said that the landslide blocked the road of the national highway. So the highway had to be closed for vehicular movement. The Traffic Police of Jammu and Kashmir said that due to landslides at several places on the NHW, large pieces of rock fell, blocking the road and stopping vehicular movement.

The Qazigund-Jammu-Srinagar highway is the only national highway connecting Jammu and Kashmir to other parts of the country. Officials said that the highway was closed due to landslides at different places on the highway and the falling of rock fragments from the mountains. Officials said the Banihal-Qazigund sector of the highway witnessed heavy snowfall throughout the night. While in Rompadi-Banihal, Shalgarh-Vagan, Moumpasi-Ramsau, Pantial, Digdole, Marug, Monkey Mod, Cafeteria Bend and Mahar in Ramban district, heavy rains triggered landslides and falling of stones from the hills, affecting traffic movement.
