NEW DELHI:  A notorious human trafficker has been detained by the special cell of the Delhi Police four years after he brutally killed a 12-year-old tribal girl. The minor’s body was cut into 6 pieces and stuffed into a bag Then, in west Delhi, a drain was filled with fragments of her body. she repeatedly asked for her salary arrears.

Shalu Topno (26), a resident of Gumla, Jharkhand, was the accused, said DCP (special cell) Pramod Kushwaha. "A squad lead by inspectors Shiv Kumar and Pawan Kumar apprehended Topno.  He had been declared a proclaimed culprit by the court in the case and carried a reward of Rs 50,000,” Kushwaha mentioned.

Four months ago, the cell began following the accused after receiving a tip regarding his whereabouts. He had been continuously changing his hideouts in manay states to dodge polices.

Various teams were deployed in multiple states to track the movements of the fugitive. Recently, the police intercepted a call, which suggested that Topno might visit his village in Gumla.  A team was immediately reached there and the accused was detained. He was produced in a court in Jharkhand and brought to Delhi on a transit remand.

Topno admitted during questioning that he used to bring girls from Jharkhand and Bihar on a commission basis to put them as domestic assistance, Kushwahasaid. Topno worked at a recruitment firm in Paschim Vihar.

In 2015, he had brought the young woman from Jharkhand and secured her employment as a helper. After three years, the girl requested a payment of Rs 2 lakh as unpaid earnings in order to go back home. The proprietor of the recruitment firm, Manjeet Karketta, and Topno, however, kept postponing her payment. She was allegedly murdered by topno after threatening to report them. On May 17, 2018, after pieces of an unidentified person were found in the drain, the incident was reported. Topno was proclaimed an absconder by a court in October after unsuccessful attempts to have him arrested.
