Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Sunday will inaugurate the 40th edition of "Hunar Haat," a forum to preserve, protect, and promote local artisans and craftsmen.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, remarked on Saturday that the 12-day festival at MMRDA Ground in Bandra Kurla Complex is strengthening Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for "vocal for local" and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat."

The 40th edition of the initiative, which will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur, is expected to attract at least 1,000 artists and craftsmen from around the country. "Hunar Haat" has given national and international prominence to workmanship and handicrafts from far-flung parts of the country, said Naqvi.

Families with a history of handicrafts and craftsmanship were migrating away from their ancestors' legacy. Naqvi said, this legacy was on the edge of extinction due to a lack of market and opportunity. He said, the prime minister took effective steps to preserve, safeguard, and promote indigenous artisans' and craftsmen's ancestral traditions.

Younger generations of artisans and craftsmen are also passing on their historical tradition through programmes like "Hunar Haat." They've been integrated into the economy, according to the minister. He went on to say that "Hunar Haat" has brought economic revolution to the lives of artisans and craftspeople.
