Storm 'Yaas' creates trouble, heavy rainfall continues in Bihar-Jharkhand

Though cyclone Yaas has weakened in West Bengal and Odisha, rain and thunderstorms have still added to the devastation in many states. Rain continues in Jharkhand, Bihar and UP. Heavy rain and strong winds continues to  be prevailing in these states since Thursday night. At the same time, large trees and lightning have been reported at many places. Meanwhile, power supply has come to a complete halt due to rain and thunderstorm.

Power cut crisis deepens in Bihar: It has been revealed that the power supply crisis in Bihar has deepened due to heavy rains and strong winds. Production of 5 power generating stations in 8 units has come to a complete standstill. The State is consuming 5500 MW of power, but the consumption has come down to below 1250. Power supply is still disrupted in most parts of the state. In this crisis, the Power Ministry is facing a lot of hurdles in supplying power. It is feared that the power problem is going to continue in the state.

Rainfall expected for next 48 hours: According to reports, the devastation left behind by cyclone Saheb is very scary and frightening. This can be gauged from the fact that air travel is also going to be banned in these States. Many flights have been cancelled. The Met ministry has predicted light to moderate rain in Bihar and adjoining eastern UP for the next 48 hours. Heavy rain is also forecast in some parts.

The incessant rains have created water logging and flood like situation in cities and villages. In Bihar, water has accumulated on the roads in the capital Patna. People are leaving their homes for urgent work. However, the Met ministry has continued to rain continuously in Bihar to get out only if it is very important from the people.  In Bihar, lightning has been issued in south and east. More lightning is also expected at some places in central Bihar in the next 24 to 48 hours. Director, Meteorological Centre Vivek Sinha said light to moderate intensity rain is likely to occur across the state for the next two days.
