Hurun Global Rich List: Ambani overtakes Adani to bag richest Indian title

According to the Hurun Global Rich List, which was published today, March 22,  Asia's richest man Mukesh Ambani became the only Indian to feature in the list of top Ten billionaires across the world.

The report titled "The 2023 M3M Hurun World Rich List" that was put together by research platform Hurun in collaboration with real estate group M3M, the head of Reliance Industries (RIL) maintained 9th place globally despite a 20% decline in wealth with a net worth of  USD 82 billion.

The billionaire has also continued to hold the title of richest Asian for a third straight year. The RIL Chief celebrated 20 years in charge of Reliance, a span during which the conglomerate's revenues increased 17-fold and its profit increased 20-fold.

Mukesh Ambani ranked first, followed by Gautam Adani with a net worth of USD 53 billion among Indian billionaires. Cyrus Poonawalla stood third with a net worth of USD 28 billion. Shiv Nadar and their family is fourth with USD 27 billion and Lakshmi Mittal is fifth with USD 20 billion.

The report also revealed that after the explosive Hindenburg Research report in January 2023, Adani lost USD 28 billion in value, or 3,000 crore per week, in 2022–2023.

The report also  alleged the Adani Group had engaged in brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme, improper use of offshore tax havens, and flagged concerns about the group's high debt – claims that the company has denied.

The richest person in terms of dollars over the past year has been Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. The billionaire creator has lost more money personally than Ambani and Adani combined, totaling USD 70 billion.
