Nawada, today, a man was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by a local court for killing his wife for dowry. Shravan Mahto was covicteed and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by Additional District and Sessions judge (V) Rajesh Kumar for killing his wife for dowry.

According to court, "the court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. The convict would have to serve in prison for one more year if he fails to deposit the fine".

Shravan Mahto, the convict, had killed his wife Ranju Devi for dowry on September 16, 2013 at his Badi Kulni village of the district.

An FIR has been lodged by the family members of the deceased on the same day with the same police station of the district.

The deceased identified as Ranju Devi, who was married to Shravan Mahto in 2008. The couple have two children out of the marriage.
