Hyderabad: The Election Commission had announced the election schedule for West Bengal and Odisha, postponing the Huzurabad by-election. Former minister Eatala Rajender, facing land grabbing charges, had resigned from his Huzurabad constituency on June 12 this year and the vacancy was notified the same day Speaker P Srinivas Reddy accepted the resignation. With the Election Commission of India (ECI)'s decision to postpone the Huzurabad bypoll, TRS party leaders feel that it will give the ruling party more time to campaign in the constituency.

It was expected that the Election Commission would announce the schedule of Huzurabad along with other by-elections in the country. However, the Election Commission had sought the opinion of all the parties to hold the elections and the ruling party had sought postponement in view of the unfavorable conditions in the state due to Corona cases. The Election Commission generally holds by-elections within six months to fill the vacancy in the constituency.

The ruling party had nominated Gelu Srinivas Yadav in Huzurabad. The TRS MLA in charge of a mandal in Huzurabad said there were some problems during the first campaign as Rajendra was a senior leader and Gelu was an inexperienced candidate. But now, we feel the tide is turning back in our party, he said. The TRS leader said that with the election signaled after Dussehra, the party would get enough time to cover the constituency. The MLA said that along with the campaign, government schemes including Dalit brothers will fully help the party in the coming days. The decision of the Election Commission has certainly appeased the ruling party leaders as they wanted more time for the elections.
