JAMMU: Police said that security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi area on Thursday prevented a significant terrorist strike by apprehending a "hybrid terrorist."

A hideout was also searched by security authorities, who reportedly found weapons, ammunition, and explosives as well as Rs. 181,000 in cash intended for terrorist-related activities.

Zaffar Iqbal of Bal-Angrala was identified as the "hybrid terrorist" who was apprehended. He is the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba member Mohd Ishaq's brother, who was reportedly killed in a shootout with security personnel in Rajouri district.

"Hybrid terrorists" are unlisted radicalised individuals who carry out terrorist attacks and frequently go into their regular life with no sign of having done so.

Zaffer Iqbal was in contact with terrorist handlers in Pakistan, according to information that was given to the Mahore police station. The Rashtriya Rifles, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the police teams conducted a coordinated operation in the Angrala jungle based on the information, according to the police.

During the raid, a hideout in the region yielded two Glock pistols, four magazines, 22 rounds of live ammo, and one grenade. Later, they added, Rs. 181,000, which was intended for use in terrorist-related activities, was also found.
Iqbal, a "hybrid terrorist," was taken into custody by the joint squad in Plaasu Nallah. He acknowledged to having contact with terrorist organisations while being questioned, they said.

Reasi Senior Supdt of Police Amit Gupta said Iqbal's arrest is a big success. The SSP claimed that a significant terror attack had been stopped thanks to his detention.

He said, individuals like Iqbal work for terrorist handlers stationed in Pakistan who are continually attempting to resurrect insurgency in the upper reaches of Reasi.

The officer asserted that the peaceful population of Reasi have previously eschewed militancy and that no such attempt would be effective in this region.

According to sources, Abdul Rashid Mahore, a relative of Iqbal from Reasi, is currently in Pakistan and is collaborating with terrorist organisations.
