Hyderabad: Teacher detained for beating 5-year-old

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], November 17 (NT): The police have detained a school teacher for allegedly beating a five-year-old student of Sacred Heart School at Tarnaka in Hyderabad yesterday.

A Senior Kinder Garten (SKG) student, Mohammed Khaja Lateef, went home with wounds on his back and informed his parents about the incident after which the parents filed a police complaint.

In a little while, the teacher, who has been recognized as Kumudhini, was detained by the police.

"The student went home and said the entire case to the parents. Parents filed a complaint. The police then detained the teacher," Inspector V Ashok Reddy of Osmania University Police Station informed.

As per the police, in the morning during a class, Lateef supposedly had a fight with one of his classmates and biting him. Hence, Kumudhini beat him brutalywith a stick.

Balala Hakkula Sangham, an NGO working in Hyderabad for child rights, is demanding the shutting of the school and an appropriate action against the accused teacher and the school management for showing unkindness against the small child.

As per victim's mother's grievance, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Juvenile Justice Act and the case is being probed.
