Hyderabad: The issue continues to be ignored by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation even after two people died after falling into open drains due to the negligence of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Due to the rains, many roads in the city have become even more dangerous, as they get filled with water. Open manholes become invisible and at times, travelers fall into them. Most of the manholes and drains are lying open along the city roads, forcing people to risk their lives and walk on the road.

There have been several incidents in which passengers have suffered injuries due to open manholes. Trapped vehicles have also become common. Whenever it rains, suburbanites and traders put long sticks or tree branches in open manholes to warn of danger. On September 30, 2021, a motorcyclist fell near an open drain near the Medina Mosque in Hassan Nagar. and was badly injured.

Residents say the open manholes have become death wells for civilians. A state minister promised better roads and claimed that they were developing roads in the city. Two people have been reported to have died in the last few days after they fell into an open drain in the city during the recent rains. This happens every year, but GHMC adopts the same careless attitude of employees leaving drains and drains open which becomes a death trap for the people.
